St Mary's Asitavi Secondary School Partners with St Saviours Girls High School in Queensland11/17/2021
![]() The St Mary’s Asitavi Secondary School in Central Bougainville is partnered with St Saviours Girls High School in Queensland through the #PNGAusPartnership Secondary Schools (PASS) initiative. This initiative brings students from Australian and PNG schools together to learn from each other and undertake shared learning activities in STEM, English, leadership and digital skills. Since the beginning of the pandemic face-to-face visits have not been possible however PASS has found many ways to support partner schools in PNG throughout the COVID-19 crisis, through water sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) improvements and through better ICT to continue connecting students. St Mary’s Asitavi Secondary School now has new and improved WASH facilities. These include the installation of three water tanks holding 15,000 litres and hand basins, 500 customised face masks, 105 litres of hand sanitisers, soap disinfectant and seven thermometers.
Australian High Commission representative, Mary James visited the school recently and saw first-hand the support the school has received through the initiative. The school is also being connected to the internet through satellite technology to enable effective online learning and received a computer set to support online trainings and project collaboration for the students and teachers. Since 2019, 24 schools across Papua New Guinea and Australia been connected through the PASS initiative.
