The St Benedict’s Campus (SBC) of Divine Word University in Wewak, East Sepik Province graduated its third batch of Matriculation students on Friday, the 25th of September 2020. These 34 students who out of 100 students who have successfully completed upgrading their Grade 11 and 12 marks, are now certified to compete for a space in any other tertiary institutions. “You have realized that despite being dropped out and seen as a failure, DWU’s St Benedict’s Campus is your bridge, giving you another chance to cross over and be connected to the other side of the world. It is up to you to push on,” encouraged Associate Professor Joseph Lingua Kekeya, DWU’s Dean of the Faculty of Education at the graduation ceremony. Vice President of the St Benedict’s Campus, Dr Fr Lawrence Arockiaraj also reminded the graduates, that their prime responsibility is to learn and become agents of change in their lives, their societies and in the country as a whole. “Be agents of change, ask ‘How’ instead of ‘Why’ and accept the challenges in order to think of ways to move forward,” Dr Fr Lawrence Arockiaraj said.
“You have to be qualified intellectually, spiritually and humanly in order to be an active player on the ground, so change your mentality of helplessness and think positively in order to transform,” he pointed out. According to the Coordinator of Matriculation & Upgrading studies Mr Michael Gao, enrollments have already opened for Matriculation Studies next year, 2021. DWU also has matriculation centers in the Maprik and the Yangoru Sausia districts, with plans to expand to other districts of East Sepik Province as time goes by.
