Sepik lad Sinclaire Papinduo is the successful winner of the National Development Bank’s Scholarship program, according to the acting managing director Aaron Underdown. “We have received a number of applications all around the country, however, this candidate Mr Papinduo stood out amongst them all,” he said. Hailing from Japarakwa village of Kubalia in East Sepik, 34 year old Papinduo is the last of eight siblings (he has three sisters and four other brothers). “I lost my mother at a very young age when I was doing my grade three back in the village,” Papinduo said. Despite the loss, he managed to complete his primary and secondary education through the financial assistance of his father and seven elder siblings. “Just when I am about to start my college education in Port Moresby, God decided to also call my father home in 2016,” Papinduo said.
He said life was not the same after his dad passed on. “I was selected to study accounting at IBS the following year but due to no school fee, I had to put the study opportunity on hold and look for a job to help myself with school fees,” he said. Papinduo was recruited as a security guard with the G4S security firm and worked from 2017 to 2018. “I had to save every little penny just to make up for my school fees. I reapply to Port Moresby Business College and was accepted to study accounting from 2019 to 2020,” he said. He self-sponsored himself and after completing his first and second year at the POM Business College, he managed to get selected to study 3rd Year Bachelor of Accountancy this year (2021) at the University of Papua New Guinea. NDB Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Ms Vicky Vene presented the certificate of scholarship award to Mr Papinduo at the bank’s head office on Friday, 26 March 2021. “This scholarship will assist me to go a long way in life and I could not repay NDB in any way but just say ‘Thank you’,” Papinduo said. It was his dream to be a certified accountant and could not wait to graduate with his degree in Accounting after completing his studies at UPNG.
