Schools Responsibility to Solve Issues that come about when Implementing 1-6-6 Education System12/19/2021
PNG EDUCATION Minister Jimmy Uguro says it is a school’s responsibility to solve any development issues that come with the implementation of the 1-6-6 system. He was responding to questions on a lack of resources and infrastructure development in some schools to implement the system. Uguro told The National that it was a school’s administrative issue to solve. He said the Government allocated funding to the provinces and education divisions and they needed to work with district authorities and school administrations to provide infrastructure development and other administrative assistance. “So 1-6-6 is the system now that the Education Department is adapting and rolling out but the schools in the communities and various communities will gradually phase out the outcomes based education system to get back to the standards based education system,” Uguro said. He said the implementation of the 1-6-6 system would take time given different challenges such as logistics, capacity, manpower, communications, geography and infrastructure provinces faced with reaching all schools.
“So the direction is to see how we can communicate with the environmental settings, economic progress of the country and community and ensure education is accessible for everyone,” he said. Uguro said the Government was committed to paying the full appropriation of K486 million this year before the financial year closed. He said the information recently released by National Education Board (NEB) deputy chairman Michael Ova was not entirely correct. “The information the department provided to the members of the NEB last week was purely for their information only,” he said. “Ova had no right to comment or speak to the media on behalf of the NEB.” The National / PNG Education News Next : University Of Goroka Phasing Out Diploma Programme Comments are closed.
