ONLY 849 of 12,000 schools have given their response to the Government on how they are complying with Covid-19 requirements, Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra says. He said a report was submitted to State of Emergency Controller and Police Commissioner David Manning’s office that only a small number had responded. Dr Kombra said the report was submitted as requested by Comm Manning on May 4 that all primary to secondary schools would be inspected to ensure they met all requirements of mitigating the risk of the Covid-19.
“All schools are to complete a prescribed checklist to mitigate the risk of Covid-19 to their students, staff and surrounding communities,” Comm Manning said. The deadline for the checklist was on Monday. Dr Kombra said many schools, especially in remote areas, could not be reached because of difficulties with communication and access. “The minister and I gave out instructions but we do not know how many of them have read our instructions.” He called on parents to help their children so that they learnt at home as well because the new adjusted class schedules would not be enough to recover lost class times. “If students are only having three days of lessons a week, how can I say that they are learning enough?” he said. “We need the cooperation and commitment of students and parents (because) all of us have to work together to ensure that students are having lessons.” Statement/TheNational/PNGEducationnews Next: Marape-Steven Govt To Digitize Higher Education With K8.8 Million Funding Comments are closed.
