A PRE-SCHOOL teacher in Port Moresby tested positive for the Covid-19 last weekend forcing the school to close for 14 days. Acting executive director of the St Joseph’s Catholic College in Port Moresby Fr Ben Fleming said in a statement issued to parents that the school would be closed to allow a professional cleaning company to clean the school. “We have hired the Propest cleaning company to assist us do a deep clean to the whole college,” he said. Fr Fleming said he had advised all staff to be tested for the Covid-19 two weeks ago and one staff member had returned a positive test.
“I have decided to close the school for two weeks so staff and students who have been in contact with this teacher can self-isolate and be tested if necessary,” he said. “I will also ask those staff, especially who were in contact with the teacher, to get retested. “I know this is an inconvenience but these steps are the right things to do for the health and safety of our college and community. “At the moment, the school is on lockdown and all staff and visitors are allowed into the school premises only if they are tested negative to the Covid-19.” Fr Fleming also said within the closure of the school he would make arrangements for those who were to sit for exams in the coming months. “All grade 12s will be notified earlier than the said date to ensure their exam preparations will proceed despite the disruption.” The National/PNGEducationNews Next : Let Churches Teach Children In PNG Comments are closed.
