THE corpse of a schoolgirl, believed to be murdered, was found buried inside the Army Igam Barracks in Lae. The girl was identified as Jacklyn Kombugko from Guo village in the Waiye local level government area of Kundiawa, Chimbu. Lae Met Supt Anthony Wagambie Junior could not be reached for comments yesterday but Tent City police station commander Jack Sakali confirmed the matter. Sakali, whose police station is just next to Igam Barracks, said he was aware of the recovery of the body of a female at the barracks. “I cannot say much because my men are not involved,” Sakali said. “It is a serious case so the CID officers from the Lae Metro Command are investigating it.” The victim’s father, Gabriel Kombugko, told The National on Monday that his daughter, who was a Grade 12 student at the nearby Bumayong Secondary School, had left the family home at Asu Block in Kamkumung at around 1pm on July 15 to see her boyfriend at the Igam Barracks. “She told her mother and her brothers that she was going to Igam to see her boyfriend,” Kombugko said. “She left wearing a brown six-pocket trouses, a meri blouse and carried a bilum and an umbrella,” he said. He said when he returned from work he learnt that Jacklyn went to Igam to see her boyfriend. “Her boyfriend from Manus is the son of an army major at the Barracks,” Kombugko said. The National
