![]() UNDERTAKING the Australia Awards PNG short course award has meant acquiring new skills and tools necessary to better serve mothers and infants at Sandaun General Hospital in Vanimo, West Sepik, a midwife says. Miriam Kekerem is currently undertaking an Australia Awards Graduate Certificate in Health Science short course which she will complete in December. “My 13 years of work experience has been focused on patient care,” she said.
“After this course, I hope I can run training for my colleagues, impart my learnings and be able to identify gaps in disease and infection control in my work. “Moreover, I will build confidence in my public speaking and leadership skills.” Kekerem said the Australia Awards short course award had been the “opportunity of a lifetime”. She said that the scholarship had given her a chance to achieve her goals and become a better midwife. According to a statement from the Australian High Commission, applications for a scholarship in Bachelor of Midwifery are open until Aug 8.
