She said this area of the industry was growing because of its convenience and speed of access. ![]() ACCORDING to National AIDS Council Secretariat (NACS) acting director Tony Lupiwa, young girls between the ages of 15 and 24 in Papua New Guinea are at most risk of testing positive for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). He said one of the ways to protect young women was to ensure they were well informed at a young age about the disease. Lupiwa said the secretariat was working with the Education Department to have a specific curriculum educating high school students (from grade 9-12) about HIV which led to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and sexual health with a focus on female students. MOROBE has appointed more than 350 primary school teachers in various positions for next year, says provincial education programme adviser Keith Tangui.
While not confirming the exact number, Tangui said many teachers were leaving this year after reaching retirement age. Not many were applying or eligible for teaching positions, especially in secondary and technical and vocational education and training (TVET), he said. PNG EDUCATION Minister Jimmy Uguru says the Government is committed to paying the subsidies of schools throughout the country this year.
He was responding to a series of questions in Parliament by the Pomio MP Elias Kapavore. Kapavore asked if the Government had paid all outstanding funds for schools in East New Britain, reviewed an agreement between the Education Department and East New Britain to ensure funds went directly to schools in Pomio and if some teachers in the province who had not been paid for the last five years had been given their backdated entitlements. |
