![]() THE Jiwaka education board (PEB) will make recommendations for the three female teachers sacked for drinking alcohol in a school staff room and posting it on Facebook. According to Jiwaka education adviser Dr Charly Muke, the recommendation would be sent to the Teaching Service Commission (TSC), which would decide what to do. He said all teachers were employed by the TSC, therefore, only it could suspend or terminate teachers.
Dr Muke corrected a recent media article saying the PEB would suspend the trio. He said PEB did not have the power to do that. Dr Muke said the PEB members, through their disciplinary committee, could report and propose a penalty but the commission had the final say by law. “For our three teachers at Aviamp High School, we will collect information from both the school administration and the staff before the PEB makes a recommendation,” he said. Dr Muke said they began with the inspectors’ report on Monday and yesterday they got the staff and administration to present their story.
