Jan Czuba was arrested and charged yesterday with one count of official corruption and nine counts of abuse of office. National Fraud and Anti-corruption directorate Director, Mathew Damaru, said it is alleged Fr Jan, in his capacity as Secretary engaged services of a Polish Company - PCG Academia - to provide and manage software facilities for the on-line applications and on-line selection program without following the proper procurement process to secure the procurement contracts. Mr. Damaru said it is also alleged that Fr. Jan engaged his business partners and associates on the expenses of the Department on goods and services from his private companies in which he authorised payments. ![]() The Papua New Guinea Education Department has declared the Grade 10 and 12 Examinations Results online today. The Examination Results for both Grade 10 and 12 are now available online. The top 15 performing schools were also announced. There were 72 124 Grade 10 students who set for the National Examinations while 30, 711 Grade 12 students set for the Grade 12 Examinations. He said this during the university’s 15 masters pinnacle programme last Thursday. ![]() NEW Irelanders Jason Bunim and Serah Lusem graduated last week from University of Technology, thanks to Mineral Resource Lihir Capital’s scholarship programme. Bunim graduated with a bachelor’s degree in commerce while Lusem attained a bachelor’s degree in tropical agriculture. The scholarship was an ongoing programme that the company funded as part of its community service to the people of Lihir. ![]() RECENT fisheries and marine resource graduate Job Sam, 27, from Mendi, Southern Highlands, says his parents deserve the credit for his achievement. Sam earned a bachelor’s degree from the Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment (PNGUNRE) and was the top student in his class. “I wouldn’t have made it to where I am now without my parents,” he said. “It was through them that I was able to complete my studies.” Sam said his parents were subsistence farmers who earned a living through selling food crops. He said his parents had worked hard to pay his fees over the four years at the university. Sam said he was grateful to his father and mother, who could not attend the graduation and dedicated his degree to them. Commissioner operations Maini Ugaia said the commission would start off by establishing offices in all 22 provinces from next year. “While working in the commission, I have noted many teachers are not industrious and honest in their profession,” he said. He said there was chronic absenteeism, unprofessional conducts, absconding, engaging in other activities without seeking proper approval for leave of absence which equated to a huge waste of money in terms of salary and time. ![]() The Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology has given a Service Contract to the University of Goroka to redevelop the former Sepik Agriculture College at Bainyik, Maprik District and offer its Agriculture and Rural Development programs. A three-year Diploma in Agriculture program will be offered at the Bainyik Campus beginning Semester one 2021. On successful completion of this program in 2023, the top 20% of the cohort will be selected to do another year of study to obtain a Bachelor of Agriculture degree. Application is now open for Grade12 School leavers and Non- School leavers to apply for enrolment for the Diploma program in the 2021 Academic Year. |
