![]() THE Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) is looking to establish police college campuses in other parts of the country, says deputy commissioner Joanne Clarkson. Clarkson said that they were already in talks with New Britain Palm Oil Ltd, one of their development partners, to use pieces of land provided in West New Britain to set up part of the campus. “We’re being pushed by Government to increase numbers quickly, and the college at Bomana has a limited capacity,” she said. “The current college set up can only cater for 560 trainees; that’s 60 at the officer cadet wing and 500 if we squeeze people up at the recruit facility.” She said if they were to build colleges in the other regions, they were hoping to have the same numbers in those facilities. She said they have had discussions with NBPOL country manager Robert Nilkare, exploring the use of land at Gusap in Morobe. “There’s already a facility there so we are trying to see how we can make further improvements to that,” she said. Clarkson said there were two sites that Commissioner Manning was looking at; one was Gusap and the other was Poroma in Southern Highlands. She noted that Poroma also had an existing facility that they could make improvements to. “We could work with our strategic and development partners to try and mirror the facilities that currently exist at the Bomana Police College to run recruit training at those other locations as well,” Clarkson said. She said one of their concerns when looking into building more colleges was their capacity to deliver training at these new colleges when they are completed. The National / PNG Health News Also read
