Teachers nationwide will demand the Government to delay the resumption of schools scheduled for next Monday. All schools are expected to resume classes on Monday, as announced by the Controller of the National Pandemic Response, David Manning. The Papua New Guinea Teacher's Association National Management Committee met this morning to present an ultimatum to the Minister for Education, Jimmy Uguro and the Secretary for Education, Doctor Uke Kombra. The committee amongst other issues, resolved to ask the Government for an indefinite delay of resumption of schools for term two, put on hold the auto suspension of 32,200 teachers, and for the Government to pay risk allowance for teachers.
The PNGTA N.M.C has given a 24 hour deadline for the Government to respond, before they seek industrial action through the office of the Industrial Registrar, to continue dialogue for a possibility of a Nation wide strike by the teachers. The schools were closed for 4 weeks during the isolation period. NBC News / PNG EducationNews Next : Look After School Inspectors Comments are closed.
