UNIVERSITY of Goroka (UOG) Vice-Chancellor Prof Musawe Sinebare has recommended that every university student and anyone thinking of venturing into politics to read New Ireland Governor and former prime minister Sir Julius Chan’s book. Sir J, as he is widely known, presented a copy of the book “Playing the Game” to UOG on Thursday. He handed the book to Prof Sinebare as a gift to the university. The book covers his entire life experience, including businesses and his public and personal life. Prof Sinebare said there were many developments in PNG, many of them came about as a result of decisions by Sir Julius as a politician, former prime minister and as a statesman.
“Sir J gave PNG the kina and toea, the currency we are using, as the first finance minister of PNG,” he said. “His contribution strengthen our currency as we moved on. “The book will be kept in the university library for students to read.” Pro-Vice-Chancellor Donald Gumbis told students that the book was a must-read for those who wanted to move into politics.
