THE Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment has suspended classes at its Vudal campus in East New Britain for 14 days following the detection of a second Covid-19 positive case on campus. Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Francis Essacu said the individual was now in isolation at the Provincial Health Authority Covid -19 care facility. The suspension of classes began last Thursday. It will end March 31. Classes which can be conducted online are continuing. All university staff are at work and have been encouraged to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 protocols. “Movement of students have been restricted and staff and dependents have been also asked to limit their movement in and out of the campus,” he said.
“Health workers from the university clinic are stationed at the main university entrance to screen everyone entering the campus.” He said the suspension of classes would not affect the 2021 academic almanac. Deputy chief physician of the New Guinea Islands region Dr Alex Maha conducted an awareness on Covid-19 to staff and students at the Vudal campus last Thursday. It was to help them understand more about the Covid-19 and the challenges faced plus the importance of adhering to Covid-19 public health safety protocols.
