![]() A JUDGE has told an armed robbery suspect that his alleged attack on a couple was unbecoming of a university student. National Court judge Justice Jim Wala Tamate rejected a bail application from University of Papua New Guinea student Junior Aure, 26, of Drima village, Gumine, Chimbu, who is facing a charge of robbery. Aure said he was attending the University of PNG and needed to be granted bail because of his studies. “(Aure) is now concerned about his UPNG studies,” he said.
“He wants to raise funds for his re-admission. The behaviour he demonstrated does not fit the behaviour of a university student. “A woman would have been killed if the security officers had not come to her aid. “The smaller amount of money stolen (from her) does not make this offence less serious.” The court heard that Aure allegedly used a kitchen knife to attack and rob a man and his wife on Sep 14 last year at Vadavada settlement in Port Moresby. Aure and another man allegedly stole K700 from Lyn Joe who was walking home with her husband near the Manu Autoport. They allegedly punched the husband and took the money and items from the bag Joe was carrying. “There was the use of a kitchen knife on a helpless woman whose husband was attacked and their money was stolen with some other personal items,” he said. “The crime of robbery is serious.” He refused bail and ordered that Aure be remanded.
