The Papua New Guinea TEACHING Service Commission (TSC) chairman Samson Wangihomie says he supports Education Minister Jimmy Uguro’s vision to improve our education system. Wangihomie said this in response to statements made by Uguro in parliament last month. “The minister rightly highlighted the need to ensure that teachers receive the benefits they are entitled to,” he said. “We acknowledge that the remuneration and overall treatment of teachers have a direct impact on the standard of education. “Also, we echo the minister’s sentiments regarding the vital role teachers play in especially in rural areas.” Wangihomie said that their commitment was commendable and showcased their unwavering dedication to education.
“In the coming weeks, we will work closely with the education ministry to ensure that the changes to the teachers’ pay structure and teachers’ benefits are implemented effectively,” he said. He said the TSC was actively working to upgrade teachers’ pay structure based on their qualifications in alignment with established processes and procedures that governed its operations. “This initiative aims to recognise the dedication and expertise of our educators, fostering an environment where excellence thrives. “The TSC, as the state agency responsible for the employment of teachers nationwide, is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and fairness in the treatment of our valued educators. “I assure all teachers and the general public that our activities and future directions are aligned with the minister’s directive and the Government’s broader vision for education reform. “We are committed to transparency and accountability in our endeavoirs. “The TSC operates within a framework that upholds fairness, integrity and adherence to establish guidelines and the Teaching Service Act 1988.” Wangihomie said with support from schools and institutes, the education ministry and educators, they were looking forward to realising a brighter and more prosperous future for our nation through teachers.
