THE Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in Papua New Guinea has never kept any data for teachers but that is to change soon, chairman Samson Wangihomie says. He said TSC had the largest number of employees, about 65,000, and growing each year. “The biggest project at the moment is we, as the employer, had never had any data on the teachers,” he said. Wangihomie said TSC was embarking on the task to ensure that they had biodata in the office so that they knew who their teachers were and where they were. He said they were working with support from the department’s IT. Education Minister Jimmy Uguro earlier said there was a big problem across the country regarding teaching positions. “We have problems with teaching positions throughout the country,” he said.
Our education policy says one teacher, one position, one pay. “Many schools have problems with teachers positions, many teachers are sitting on two or double positions. Uguro said the department needed to rectify the issue to make sure that there was only one teacher, one position come the 2021 academic year. “This is the challenge that goes to Teachers Service Commission to ensure that our teachers are paid for one position,” he said. “This data base system will help minimise such issues.” Meantime, TSC is embarking on putting officers in each province to deal with teachers’ issues at provincial and district levels. Wangihomie said they were trying to get TSC to where the teachers were. “The employer has always been in Waigani and the employees have always been in the provinces, in the districts down to the LLGs and it is important that the employer knows who their employees are and that is what we are doing, and that is our biggest challenge.” TheNational/PNGEducationnews Next : Teachers Should Resume: Not Withdrawing Service In 2021 Comments are closed.
