PAPUA New Guinea student-pilots at Royhle Flight Training Academy in Dumaguete,
Philippines, sat for their private pilot licence (PPL) examinations last week. Ishmael Benjamin, Edmund Kaukia and Greg Tonneman earned their student pilot licence this year after successfully flying solos. They are three of the PNG students enrolled to pilot training through Paradise International Education Consultancy (PIEC). These students took their PPL written exams to be officially licensed private pilots. A PPL is a licence that permits the holder to act as the pilot-in-command of an aircraft privately. Before earning a PPL, a student should accomplish his student pilot licence and pass all exams needed before taking a check ride for PPL. “I feel that I am already a pilot and this is all because of my parents’ support. I also thank Kelly Naru, the Governor of Morobe, for his help,” Benjamin said. The week-long exam will serve as the initial stage of obtaining the licence, which will be followed by a check ride by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. A check pilot will fly with each of the students during the check ride to examine their skills on air. Once the students clear the check ride, they will then be issued their PPL. RFTA currently has eight PNG students enrolled for pilot training. More students are flying to the Philippines through the education services of PIEC to register for university, pilot training and short courses. Comments are closed.
