![]() PNG DEPARTMENT of Higher Education Research Science and Technology (DHERST) secretary Fr Jan Czuba will return to court in a months’ time for submissions after his police file was served on him. Fr Jan, through his lawyer Edward Sasingian of Kamen Lawyers, will file submissions on April 29 in response to the alleged fraud-related charges levelled against him. Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Tracy Ganaii extended his K3,000 bail with conditions. Fr Jan, 61, from Poland, is facing charges in relation to the awarding contracts outside of the normal public tender and procurement processes, authorising payments to several companies that he is alleged to be a director and shareholder of, using the department’s funds for various services rendered to the department.
All allegations relate to a fraud investigation where a K4.2 million, belonging to the department, was used in 2017, 2018 and 2019 when Fr Jan was acting secretary.
