PNG PRIME Minister James Marape says the Government is making the Grade 12 certificate a universally recognised lower education. “Grades eight and 10 certificates would only be issued as a benchmark in an assessment, but, the competent senior lower education recognition will be the Grade 12 certificate,” he said. Marape’s concern was that the younger generation possessed skills to be on various social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp but lacked vital skills to sustain themselves and prepare them as adults into the future. “Education is a fundamental right and half-educated population will be the most dangerous lot to any civilisation in the future,” he said.
In the last academic year, Marape said 137,769 students dropped out of school after completing eight years of education, 74,982 dropped out after 10 years and 31,817 students dropped out after 12 years. “All these figures indicate the need for more flexible distant education opportunities for students to matriculate and continue,” he said. “Leave no child behind. “Aim to create space for 30,000 students in the next 10 years.” Statement Next : Marape Government Allocates K51 Million For Tertiary Loan Scheme Comments are closed.
