THE seven pioneer students of Marianville High School (now secondary) have extended their gratitude to Our Lady of Sacred Heart sisters for setting them on their lives journey.
Of the seven, six of them – Violet Love, Maria Paul, Nellie Beni, Gerthrude Bannon, Mary Willie and Josephine Ehava each expressed their thank you to the OLSH sisters during the school’s Golden Jubilee celebrations last Saturday. “Me and the girls would really love to thank Our Lady of the Sacred Heart sisters who have honestly set us on our lives journey with such dignity and spirit in our lives, with backbones we took with us in life,” Violet Love, the first head girl of the school, said. Love said the nuns have taught them values of respect and never to be afraid of situations which made them stronger over the years. “The nuns have moulded us into women who are not afraid to face life and situations,” she said. Love said their time spent at the school saw them to form great friendships that has lasted a lifetime. She said they were happy to be there to see that after 50 years the school has really developed as in their time there were only two building. “We had our 50 years and you have to make the next 50 years,” Love told the girls (students) during the celebration. She said during her time, girls were not allowed to attend co-ed institutions by parents and some of them have missed out on university opportunities in their era. The pioneers were so proud to see girls these days having the privilege to attend universities among the males and becoming doctors, lawyers and the like.
