![]() PRIME Minister James Marape has urged parents, teachers and public servants to make the education of PNG children their business. Launching the 2020-2029 National Education Plan last Friday in Port Moresby, he said quality education was a basic right of children. He said the plan should be flexible for review between now and 2025 to “assess what they are trying to achieve and match that against what is (being) achieved”. He said children had special gifts and talents and the education system must identify and develop students’ potential. Marape wants the Flexible Open Distance Education (Fode) and the Technical Vocational School (Tvet) to be made accessible to those who have left schools. In the plan, the grade 12 certificate will be the only one recognised. Education Minister Jimmy Uguro said quality education would only be achieved when everyone worked together. Uguro said education must be affordable for parents and the National Government that appreciated Christian and traditional values. “And that it prepares literacy, skill and healthy citizens who are educated and trained to their potential to contribute to the economy and social development of our nation,” he said.
