![]() CONFUSION over online payment of compulsory fees have left some University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) new intakes frustrated on the first day of registration yesterday. While a handful of students managed to complete their payments and were allocated rooms, some had to wait in long queues outside the UPNG accounts office waiting for their payments to be processed. Bank South Pacific Financial Group Ltd (BSP) staff members were there to assist students open new accounts and to transfer fees. A Madang family told The National that they had been in Port Moresby for almost two weeks and were relieved after finally getting their son registered. A statement published on UPNG’s website www.upng.ac.pg indicated that students were to pay their initial compulsory fees online through BSP Pay using their UIS student portal.
Payment of compulsory fees through BSP Pay will enable students to register for their courses ahead of semester one. It also states that payment of other fees such as boarding fees and outstanding payments from previous years must be paid to the UPNG Tuition Fee Account at their nearest BSP bank. Students who do not have a BSP account are advised to open a new BSP account using the BSP Pay or use a relative’s BSP Pay account to pay their fees. Meanwhile, according to the statement, continuing students are advised that their excess fees from last year will not be used to pay their compulsory fees this year. Transfer of fees from one student to another will also not be accepted by the university. A student help desk was placed outside the UPNG Students Services building to assist registration yesterday. Attempts to reach the university management for comment regarding the confusion of registration process were unsuccessful.
