It has been 14 years since Miss Glenda Giles followed the invitation of the Oksapmin valley people to come and start a High school there. Meanwhile, the Junior Highschool grew into a Secondary School enabling the students to finish grade 12 in their familiar surroundings. Ever since, students from the Oksapin High school at Tekin are one of the top students of the whole Nation which speaks to the dedication of the whole teachers there. This week, Glenda Giles was farewelled with a ceremony by the students, teachers, and community as she is retiring from classroom teaching.
Miss Glenda Giles, holds an impressive array of achievements since she came to PNG in 1967 serving its people. She is a pioneer, educator, humble missionary, and firm friend to MAF. But she's not yet fully retiring either and will continue to serve under the Christian Brethren Church based in Wewak. And so it might be, that she'll be going out needing a MAF plane nevertheless to fly to remote places for school inspections, to encourage and inspire teachers.
