![]() Papua New Guinea DEFENCE Minister Saki Soloma has reiterated that there will be no military recruitment because nepotism and bribery had penetrated the entry process. Speaking at the 2020 recruits’ pass-out parade at Goldie River training depot recently, he said there would be no further recruitment for non-school leavers next year. Soloma said the PNG Defence Force would shift the focus to school leavers in 2021 to improve efficacy and the quality in military force recruitment system. “A significant part of our restructuring and rebuilding efforts will see the commencement of our recruitment targeting school leavers from high school, technical and tertiary institutions,” he said.
The concept will allow school leavers to select as an option in their school-leaving form their interest to join the force.” Soloma said this could improve the quality of applicants and ensure the initial screening of applicants was conducted by a prudent screening process based on merits and meeting the force’s requirements. Soloma said it was a chance to eradicate compromising activities, prevent fraudulent documents and install public confidence in the recruitment process. He congratulated more than 280 recruits who passed basic training and urged them to follow the ethics and values from their training.
