The construction of Moresby South’s new college is on par. Local member Justin Tkatchenko says the foundation phase of the construction is 50 percent complete and assures his constituents to expect an institution that is of quality and of high standard. The former Butuka Elementary and Primary School will be known as the Butuka Shenzhen College. Anticipated to be completed in August this year, it will be the knowledge hub for the children of Moresby South and Port Moresby. Most of the steel structures for the 55 classrooms, 12 staff houses and 1,000-seat multi-purpose assembly hall have been erected. In addition to the current enrolment, the college is projected to create 1,000 new enrolment spaces, allowing more children access to basic education. Once in full operation, the college will have a student ceiling of 3,000 students from elementary to secondary level, and employ 55 teachers. The college is a gift from the Shenzhen City of China to the municipal government and citizens of Port Moresby and is constructed to the tune of K70 million. Tkatchenko says the secondary school will be an added bonus for the electorate to relieve the burden and pressure placed on Kila Kila Secondary School. Press Release
