GUMINE MP Lucas Dekena has been appointed Education Minister to replace the late Jimmy Uguro, while Bogia MP Robert Naguri is the new Energy Minister to replace Kerenga Kua who resigned in January. Both transitions come as part of the ongoing reshuffle within the Papua New Guinea (PNG) Cabinet. In a ceremony held at Government House yesterday, both Dekena and Naguri were sworn in by Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae. Their appointments were hailed by Prime Minister James Marape, who emphasized their educational backgrounds and qualifications for their respective roles. “I am privileged to witness two fine MPs being drafted into Cabinet to fill the vacancies,” stated Prime Minister Marape. Uguro tragically passed away in February while on a duty tour in East Sepik, leaving a void in the Education Ministry. Kua's resignation in January prompted the need for a new Energy Minister following a Cabinet reshuffle within the government.
Both Dekena and Naguri are affiliated with the Pangu Party-led government, adding strength to the coalition. With their induction, the Cabinet now comprises 38 members. Prime Minister Marape stressed the importance of appointing individuals with competence and relevant qualifications to their Cabinet positions. Naguri, a University of Technology graduate with an engineering background, brings expertise in the energy sector. Meanwhile, Dekena, a University of Papua New Guinea alumnus, boasts extensive experience in the education sector, making him well-suited for the role of Education Minister. The appointments of Dekena and Naguri underwent rigorous vetting and discussions within the National Executive Council before being finalized. Prime Minister Marape expressed confidence in their abilities to effectively lead their respective ministries and contribute to the nation's development agenda. Also read Comments are closed.
