MOROBE tertiary students are carrying out a province-wide awareness programme over the school break. The group consisting of 17 tertiary students from both the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) and University of Technology (Unitech) planned to carry out the awareness in 10 districts. Incoming UPNG Student Representative Council (SRC) president Luther Kising said the awareness programme was much needed one as it would cover the importance of education, rights and health. “The awareness programme is being spearheaded by the UPNG Morobe students,” he said. Kising said that the group comprised of 30 people, including the 17 students, two police personnel, a doctor and drivers.
“We have already been to Markham, Nawaeb, Wau, Bulolo and now in Menyamya,” Kising said. “In this awareness, we are covering topics like law, especially human rights and constitutional law, democratic rights, health, education and small to medium enterprise.” He said health awareness was important as people in rural areas did not have access to information and needed to be told of the latest information as well as Government’s initiatives.
