THE organisers of the Institute of Business Studies school mathematics competition are hoping this event helps to raise the standard of math in the country.
IBS lecturer Kepa Darima said with the drop in Mathematics at the different levels of education in the country, this is IBS way to help improve the performance. The competition began in 2008 and this year 15 schools in the National Capital District participated with over 900 students. He said the aim was to create interest in Mathematics for high and secondary school students and help Grades 10 and 12 students prepare for their final examinations. “It would encourage cooperation amongst teachers to teach Maths better in their schools and it would greatly help students improve their performance”, he said. “The students were excited to visit IBS and sat the quiz. Most express satisfaction in sitting the quiz, saying it was different and challenging to what they are used to.” He thanked sponsors Paradise Food and Theodist PNG Ltd.
