POLICE in East New Britain have arrested and charged a man with causing grievous bodily harm to a teacher. Police said Dickson Kalo, 25, from Olaipun village in the Central-Inland Pomio local level government (LLG) area of Pomio allegedly attacked a school teacher and slashed his hand and knee with a bush knife. According to police commander Chief Insp Joseph Tabali, the incident occurred on Aug 6 between 7am and 9am at Palmalmal in Pomio. Police alleged that the victim was a primary school head teacher at one of the schools in Pomio. According to police reports, the victim was at his house getting ready for class when he saw a drunkard walking into the school premises with a bush knife. Police said that the suspect, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, started chasing students as they were preparing for their classes.
Chief Inspt Tabali said the victim saw what was happening and he tried to stop the suspect from disturbing the students and teachers. However, in the middle of the commotion, the suspect allegedly slashed the victim’s left hand and left knee with the bush knife. The suspect is currently in police custody.
