![]() MADANG governor Ramsey Pariwa has assured teachers in the province that their leave fares will be paid. Pariwa said the delay in payment was with the provincial education division who submitted the claims late for approval. He was responding to concerns raised by teachers who had not received their leave fares with Christmas already passed. He said the provincial education division only produced their claims last week and the provincial administration was now working to process payments. “I want to assure the hard working teachers that they will still receive their leave fares,” he said.
“I am sorry for the delay. “In future, I urge our education division to raise the claims of teachers leave fares before December.” He added that if the claims had been made earlier, they would have enough time to go through them before the closure of the academic year. The teachers also raised concern that they had been getting less than what they were expecting for their leave fares. A teacher said with the lesser leave fare amounts they have been getting, he had not travelled home to his family over the last five years as air fares had increased.
