![]() By Albertis_Photography Lake Bune in Imbongu District of Southern Highlands Province has claimed the Life of Late Jovi Apele, who is a final year student at Melanesia Nazarene Teachers College in Jiwaka Province. Late Jovi Apele is from Seven Corner (a village that border Kagua-Erave & Ialibu-Pangia District. The incident happened when he was doing his practical at Kero Primary School in Imbonggu District of Southern Highlands Province. Kero Primary school is just a few miles away from Lake Bune. Late Jovi Apele got drowned on Sunday (24th October) at around 12midday. The freezing cold lake kept the body from decaying since Sunday until yesterday. The late student, with 5 other student trainees went to Lake Bune & were swimming in the freezing cold Lake. Late Jovi had decided to swim towards the middle of the Lake, however, while he was already at the middle, he then struggled to swim on to the other side. Unfortunately, he didn't make it & got drowned in the middle of the Lake.
Late Jovi's body drowned & rests at the bottom of the lake for four 4 days, until yesterday 4.40pm, the body was found by the local divers from the surrounding village. The depth of Lake Bune at the middle is approximately 20 metres deep, which the body of the late student went that far & rests at the bottom of the Lake. The Local divers of the surrounding communities of Kero 2 council Ward made several attempt to locate the body within the last four days, but to no avail. Yesterday (27th October) after saying "Amen" to a prayer by Reverend John Yaeng, a Chaplin of Tuman Nazarene Bible and Teachers College, the local divers finally spotted the body of late Jovi from 20 metres below the lake standing upright while his feet got stuck from the swampy debris. Divers were unable to lift up the body at floor of the Lake because the feets were planted deep into the debris at the bottom of the still Lake. The divers dived in the second time but this time they could not find the body. So, after another penitent prayer at the bank of the lake the divers dived in the third time and resurfaced this time with the body of late Jovi. Stories collected from the local communities of Makai Council Wards was that no one had previously been drowned in the Lake Nine, however, late Jovi was the first. The soon to be teacher is a pride of the Kagua people and especially the Jovi's own council ward. Late Jovi Apele was looked upon as the only educated and student of higher education in his Council Ward, However Lake Bune cut late Jovi's life too short. Late Jovi has met his fate while in Kero Primary School teaching as a trainee teacher. The late student is expected to graduate with diploma in teaching but fate cut him off. Late Jovi's loss is deeply felt by fellow students and is dearly missed by family members, friends and loved ones as well as his council ward members. The body was placed at the paradise funeral home in Mt Hagen. His Funeral Service program will be held at the Tuman Nazarene Campus and then the body will be taken to his place in Seven Corner, in Kagua-Erave district.
