![]() THE Joint Forces College (JFC) in Lae, has received recognition from the Government as Papua New Guinea’s premier training institution for servicemen. Correctional Services Minister Chris Nangoi said this at the graduation of the third batch of officer cadets from JFC at Igam Barracks on Friday. Nangoi said the National Executive Council (NEC) in the last Parliament sitting in August approved the Joint Forces College legislation. He said JFC was now technically a university for the joint forces (army, police, corrections and other state agencies) complementing PNG’s national security as stated in the Vision 2050’s fourth pillar on security and international relations. “This means the college is recognised as a tertiary institution with its own governing body and should have its own operating policies and procedures and including organisational structure covering qualified lectures, administrative officers, support officers and training instructors,” he said.
“Secondly, JFC should be well supported and properly resourced with infrastructure development, manpower and logistical requirement and operations while having its own budget to support the operation of the college as stipulated by the JFC Act of 2020.” Nangoi said it was crucial for JFC accommodating the objectives of the Government’s vision of national security with its mandated role to educate leaders of the country’s discipline forces. Nangoi said it was important to develop courses that were complementary to PNG’s context but embracing the international competency base practices for officers at different levels of management and command which should be accredited and affiliated with PNG universities for graduates to qualify for high degrees and certification. He said a technical working group would be established to work with the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) and with universities to put together suitable programmes to be taught at the college. “The technical working group together with DHERST and the universities to draft college policies, establish college organisational structure, and other structures which have to be in place to manage and run the college,” he said.
