![]() HEAD Bishop of the Gutnius Lutheran church of PNG David Piso yesterday claimed that people who wanted the Highlands Lutheran International School relocated were responsible for the burning of buildings there two weeks ago. It was the third fire at the school recently, he said. The school’s six classrooms, administration building, a double-storey girls’ dormitory and principal’s house were burned down a couple of weeks ago.
Piso claimed that there were talks around that the Enga government was moving the school from Wapenamanda to Irelya in Wabag central and the Gutnius Lutheran headquarters to Amopiayak where the international school was. “The position of the church council is that the International school will not be moved to any part of Enga province,” he said. “This is a permitted school, established under a different Act and has no affiliation with any organisation, including the provincial government.” Piso urged the provincial government not to interfere with the running of the school like the appointment of teachers and board because it was not a government school. He said the school was one of 35 owned and run by the Gutnius Lutheran church in the province. The National Comments are closed.
