![]() The Grade 10 Written Expression Examination which is supposed to take place on the 4th of June has been moved to the 18th of June as announced by the Secretary for Education Dr Uke Kombra. Dr Kombra said this is the only change they are making to this academic calendar while the other Examination dates remain the same. The secretary has also directed schools to make changes and adapt to the new normal for everyone’s safety which also includes sending students home if they are sick. “We have asked schools to make specific changes to school operations and management." “We have to look at how to ensure that any child who is found to be sick must not be allowed into the classroom and must remain at home” Dr Kombra said students are required to wear masks to school, however he has received complaints about students not having enough masks at their respective schools. “The Prime Minister has already mentioned that there are funding available at our district offices and we have also allowed schools to use funds under our Tuition Free Subsidy Program to address some of these requirements” Meanwhile, the Department of Education has issued two instructions to all schools and the first one is for schools to recover all lessons that were missed over the weeks of term one and term two. “We have basically asked for shift teaching and that also includes extending normal class periods.” “So for this term, there will be additional classes to recover lessons that were missed in term one and term two.” The second instruction to schools is to observe, control and prevent the virus in the school system. “Simple instruction from the Health Department must be followed which includes, wearing masks, washing hands with hand sanitizers and maintaining social distancing at all times,” said Dr Komra. Meanwhile Dr Kombra commanded all the school board and the principals for taking up the challenge in making sure students and staff adhere to SOE and COVID-19 safety guidelines.
