The education and higher education departments believe that the Grade 12 raw marks were leaked by a selector.
In a joint statement, the National Department of Education and the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology say they have jointly commenced investigations and will refer the matter to police. Furthermore, they have apologised to parents, guardians and relatives of students whose marks were leaked. “We sincerely regret that this has happened,” they said. “Nobody has any legal or ethical right to distribute and or disseminate such confidential information to the public. “On an annual basis, the Grade 12 raw marks are provided in confidence to the selectors by the National Department of Education and the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology.” NDOE and DHERST have given the assurance that this will not happen again. The departments have jointly agreed that next year and onwards, the Grade 12 marks will be directly entered into the Online Selection System.
