TWENTY-FOUR per cent of school projects in Morobe funded last year have failed and 26 per cent are progressing, according to an official. Morobe deputy administrator social sector Robin Bazzinuc said half of those projects were completed. From the total, 10 districts in Morobe and Menyamya have completed all projects. “The 24 per cent of failed projects in schools is too much,” he said. “I have called for an audit into some of them while others have been recommended for fraud investigation.” Bazzinuc said all school administration before accessing funds had signed an agreement so that meant that those schools with failed projects would be held accountable.
“They will never escape,” he said. “I will make sure that they face the consequences of their actions as this is public money. “When the money is used, it simply means that they want to see that services are delivered.” While making the comments, Bazzinuc took into consideration some difficulties faced during transporting of materials and other costs. “Yes, this is true, but it should not be an excuse used for the failed or delaying of the project,” he said. “There has to be some form of notification outlining the problem faced with the funding that was given.” The total funding for the 2021 schools’ infrastructure projects in Morobe stands at K11,795,380.59. Bazzinuc said for this year’s schools infrastructural project funds, the committee had yet to deliberate on, but confirmed that those schools that had completed their projects would be considered. This year’s budget for schools projects was K12 million under former governor Ginson Saonu. The National / PNG Education News Next : PNG University Vice-Chancellor Vacates Office Comments are closed.
