![]() SCHOOL inspectors in PNG have been advised to evaluate teachers fairly to ensure they are eligible for promotion, Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra says. Kombra said this to inspectors at the national rating conference in Port Moresby yesterday. He said teachers could not be promoted until the inspector assessed their performances. “We have different rating levels and criteria, if they are a classroom teacher they will be assessed on their performances in the classroom like marking students work, teaching effectively, lesson planning and helping students work,” he said.
Kombra explained that teachers would be assessed on their respective duties performed as a class teacher, subject teacher, senior teacher, deputy principal and principal. The rating would be done collectively by all the provincial inspectors in the four-day conference to assess teachers from the different provinces. The inspectors are expected to visit all schools once a year where at least half the teachers will be assessed and rated. He said principals would write the report and submit to the inspector who would appraise it against the provincial ratings before sending it to the Education Department in Port Moresby. Teachers were assessed at the rating conference for promotion. Comments are closed.
