![]() GRADE Eight students from six primary schools in Madang who were supposed to sit their final english paper two examinations yesterday are set for today due to the ethnic clash between Chimbu and Madang’s Wali. Provincial education advisor John Ura, said the decision to suspend the exams was made out of concern for the safety of students, head teachers and invigilators. “Gum, Lutheren Day, Holy Spirit, Jomba and Kusbau primary schools, including Madang Christian Academy will do their exams today,” he said. Ura said the suspended schools were the schools in the vicinity of Madang town and the district where fighting was going on.
He said other primary schools in the province had completed their exams yesterday with the rest of the Grade eight students in the country. “As a precaution measure, I advised the head teachers of those schools who had completed their exams yesterday, not to bring in the examinations’ answer sheets to town as yet,” he said. “We will monitor the situation, once the situation is calm, we will advise for the answer sheets to be returned to the provincial examination coordinator. “My only decision was for yesterday’s exam to be postponed to today and any further decisions in regard to this will come from the secretary.” Ura said he had already submitted a report to the secretary.
