Dr. Uke Kombra, the Secretary of the Education Department, has asserted that the implementation and delivery of education policies will enhance educational standards throughout Papua New Guinea. Kombra made these remarks last week during the National Education Board meeting in Lae. He emphasized that proper execution of education policies, along with the effective delivery of education services by teachers, inspectors, and education managers, is crucial for improving the standard of education in the country. “If not, then it will have an impact on the rest of the country because Morobe has got the biggest number of students and staff,” Kombra stated. He highlighted that Morobe Province, due to its significant student and staff population, holds a substantial responsibility in advancing the nation’s educational standards.
Addressing provincial education officials, Kombra conveyed that Morobe now carries the responsibility to elevate the country's education standards. He expressed confidence in the province’s ability to meet expectations and bring about positive changes through education. Meanwhile, Education Minister Lucas Dekena underscored the value of education as a social investment rather than a liability. “Education is not just an expense, but an investment that yields social and economic returns,” Dekena said. He further elaborated on the benefits of education, stating that it improves individuals’ well-being, reduces poverty, promotes social cohesion, and fosters innovation and productivity. Kombra and Dekena’s remarks collectively highlight the critical role of effective education policy implementation and delivery in fostering national development and raising educational standards in Papua New Guinea.
