By JOHN ROSSO MP - LAE OPEN Electorate - On Friday 9th July 2021, I was given the honour to be the Keynote Speaker at the National Polytechnical Institute of Papua New Guinea 10th Graduation of the Class of 2020. My message of encouragement to graduands is to never give up and make the right choices in life inorder to become successful people in the future. Everything rises and falls on the choices we make in life plus hard work and perseverance. I shared with them the story of our good Governor of Central Province Robert Agarobe from a technical college graduate to helicopter mechanic to owning his own helicopter fleet and company. This included my own story from a settlement to businessman now politician representing my beloved city of Lae and also a State Minister.b
We have Papua New Guineans flying planes, engineers in mines, doctors and lecturers at universities overseas etc. all because of the choices and aspirations they have in life. If they can do it, so can you. No one is a failure and we shouldn't be blaming our parents, teachers or our government for our failures. Everything depends on individual choices we make. It's time now that Papua New Guineans must rise up to the occasion and move this nation forward. If our government can do it for Porgera and other resources and projects by fighting for our people and our country by striving for a better deal for our people and to dream big like our good Prime Minister James Marape for a better future for our people and country. Not a lot of graduands will find a decent job after graduation and that doesn't mean you give up and turn to illegal and illicit activities for survival. You must always persevere to do better in life and work towards achieving your dreams and goals even you don't get paid well or the job doesn't suit you. Our job as your government is to create jobs for you, encourage investments and working towards opening the Wafi mine and other opportunities so that people can have jobs and the country can have better equity which then transforms to better services for our people. I also reminded the graduands and those who attended not to be misled or swayed by misinformation on social media. The COVID-19 Pandemic poses huge challenges for us as a nation and together we can overcome these challenges if we approach them intellectually by doing research and decisions based on facts and not hearsay. Thank you to all the parents and relatives who invested in you graduands. They should be proud of you today and you also should be grateful to them for sacrificing to ensure you achieved your goals. It is now your turn to prosper and realize your dreams and your parents and relatives dreams and sacrifices.
