A FEMALE employee of Divine Word University in Madang has been arrested and charged with misappropriation and false pretence for allegedly stealing a sum of K426,587 belonging to the university. Madang police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the suspect was released on K3,000 bail because she had a four-month old baby. He said the woman was working as a data entry officer and accounts payable officer at the university at the time she was alleged to have committed the offence. Supt Rubiang said a report was lodged by the school administration and police conducted an investigation.
“Police investigation revealed that while doing her job as a data entry officer and accounts payable officer, she hijacked the role of another data entry officer in receiving and posting approved refund claims for students into the system,” he said. The woman allegedly used the same approved paper-work for requesting students to raise other duplicated claims for the same student which were posted into the attache system at different dates. Supt Rubiang said the woman posted the duplicated claims to different account codes.
