The Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology is working around the clock to make available funds for 2017 Tertiary Education Scholarship Assistance Scheme for higher learning institutions.
With two more days to go before the year ends, the government, through the department, reportedly owes higher learning institutions outstanding government scholarship funds and the department is pressured to make available funds after the country’s premium university placed the department in the spotlight for K7 million outstanding in students tuition fees for 2017. The outstanding fund is one of the reasons why the country’s premium university has tripled its student compulsory tuition fee for next year. This means students and parents will have to dig deeper into their pockets to pay for tuition fees in the new academic year. Fr Jan Czuba will advise on the department’s stance on the outstanding tuitions funds today. He told Post-Courier yesterday that it was unethical to make a statement but would do so today.
