PNG DataCo Ltd is supporting digital transformation in sectors such as education, law and order, and health among others, says chief executive officer Paul Komboi. Komboi said under the organisation’s community service obligation (CSO) programmes, PNG DataCo had connected certain secondary schools across the country that were piloting the Stem (science technology engineering and math) programme. He said last year, they expanded K6 million on the CSO programmes nationwide. He noted that the education sector alone was about K4.5 million where more than 50 institutions benefited, ranging from primary to tertiary level.
“We have been seeing a lot of schools doing very well in the Grade 10 and 12 exams,” Komboi said. “For most schools, we connected internet service, discounted or normal installation fees, offered WiFi access and firewall solutions for student protection to ensure a safer experience on the internet.” Speaking at the internet service launch for St Charles Lwanga Secondary School in Port Moresby yesterday (Wednesday), Komboi thanked the school administration for having the foresight to use the benefits of technology to enhance teaching and learning. “The internet installations were initiated last year and now have been fully commissioned, offering the school with broadband internet access delivered on end-to-end fibre connectivity, indoor and outdoor WiFi, plus the fire wall and filtering to ensure clean internet for our children,” he said. They also donated 10 laptops for the new IT lab. The National / PNG Education news Next : Comments are closed.
