GOOD Christian education will be the answer to solving the country’s problems, an educator says.
Institute of Christian Academy founder and director Tobias Nangunduo said the kind of Christian education students at ICA were getting would help make PNG successful in years to come. He said that during the graduation ceremony of the ABC 1 and 2 classes in Port Moresby on Wednesday. ICA teaches dual curricula to its students – the Accelerated Christian Education, or ACE, and the PNG Education Department’s. Nangunduo said ICA was declared the largest ACE school during the ACE International Convention in James Madison University, Virginia, USA, in 2011, where ICA students attended. “Our nation has a lot of problems today. We have social problems, drug problems, corruption is rife and we are looking for answers. But the answer will not come from just knowledge or engaging foreign consultants,” he said. “The answer is not found in the fact that PNG is an island of gold in an ocean of oil. It is in the teaching and imparting to the future generations, the students, godly principles, and the gospel of Jesus Christ, the need to be saved from sin and have a new heart and change in attitude. “And that is the Christian education we have here in ICA.” Nangunduo said despite the challenges the school had, he and the staff would continue to move forward with the vision they had for the students and for the country. Last year, ICA’s first batch of Grade 10 students who studied both curricula sat for the Grade 10 exams in the PNG curriculum. Next year, the first batch of Grade 12s form ICA will sit those exams as well as completing ACE requirements.
