In a bid to foster cultural exchange and enhance communication between medical professionals, a group of Chinese medical workers has introduced a Mandarin language course at the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH). The second iteration of the course commenced on March 7, drawing participation from medical professionals, students, and various hospital staff. Xie Yujie, the 13th China Medical Team coordinator and course trainer, welcomed participants during a modest ceremony, expressing gratitude for their attendance and emphasizing the significance of linguistic diversity in healthcare settings. PMGH Medical Services Director, Dr. Kone Sobi, echoed support for the initiative, emphasizing the practical benefits of learning Mandarin in a global context. He highlighted the vast number of Mandarin speakers worldwide, emphasizing the potential opportunities that proficiency in the language can unlock. Moreover, Dr. Sobi underscored the broader implications of language acquisition, expressing optimism that learning Mandarin would facilitate greater cultural understanding and exchange between Papua New Guinea and China. Xie Yujie, while elaborating on the course objectives, emphasized its dual purpose of promoting Chinese culture and enhancing the listening and speaking skills of medical staff. The six-month training program aims to provide participants with a deeper understanding of Mandarin while fostering an appreciation for Chinese heritage and customs. Furthermore, Xie emphasized the longstanding cooperation between China and Papua New Guinea in the field of healthcare. Over the past two decades, China has consistently dispatched medical teams to Papua New Guinea, contributing to advancements in medical technology and fostering mutual understanding between the two nations. Highlighting the broader vision of the China Medical Team, Xie reiterated the team's commitment to promoting friendship and collaboration between China and Papua New Guinea.
