THE Education department, Western Highlands provincial division of education and the police are investigating an incident where a teacher was accused of mixing alcoholic beverages for villagers near a school.
The incident occurred near Tambul Secondary School which reportedly caused some villagers of Wambul to get sick. Acting Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra said he did not condone what the teacher allegedly did. “Based on preliminary reports, the incident happened in Wambul village, which is near Tambul Secondary School. It involved 17 villagers including a student of Tambul Secondary School,” he said. “The only Grade 12 student involved is now at the Western Highlands Provincial Hospital. “It is an isolated case involving one teacher who was partying with villagers over the weekend. “Tambul Secondary School shall not be dragged into the situation and the nearby villagers must allow the school to resume normal operations for term two. “The teacher is now suspended while investigations are carried out into the incident. He is now in police custody,” Kombra said. “Again, I want each of the 50,000 plus teachers in the country to be mindful of your conduct as you are the face of the government in communities where you are posted to.” “I urge every teacher in this noble profession to live up to the expectation of a good role model.”
