THE recently-established Bunsil High School in Tewae-Siassi, Morobe, has no funds to maintain operations, education programme adviser Keith Tangui says. Tangui was, however, awaiting specific details and school status to be submitted to him through a report by education manager Edward Peter and inspector James Manase. “I don’t have all the details of the school, but it is a new school and it has no funds,” he said. The community in Siassi said the school had been closed for the second time since its establishment last year and wanted authorities to sort out the issues and reopen it as soon as possible. Representing them, ward eight councillor Simon Yala-Lala said the unpredicatable nature of its operations were affecting students and parents.
“They (authorities) should not hold the education of children at ransom through their own inactivity,” he said. “I appeal to the headmaster and teaching staff and the chairman and members of his governing council, wherever they are, to return to school immediately and hold discussions on this very important issue with all stakeholders.” Yala-Lala said a parents and citizens meeting decided that the school administration and the governing council convene and find a permanent solution to have the school up and running.
