Australian Government through the PNGAus Partnership offers safe and inclusive Technologies6/21/2022
![]() Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, thousands of students in Papua New Guinea have experienced disrupted learning. Absence from school, illness and school closures meant that hundreds of learning hours were lost. This is why access to safe and inclusive online and offline technologies is key to learning recovery. The Australian Government through the PNGAus Partnership, the Global Partnership for Education and partners UNICEF and Save the Children, have worked closely with the Department of Education to implement its Education in Emergencies Response and Recovery Plan. ICT interventions included in the plan are helping to transform teaching and learning for boys and girls in PNG. Twenty-three schools in the Nation’s Capital were part of an initiative to introduce digital reading books into the classroom.
The Library For All (LFA) Spark Box Kits are digital classroom libraries filled with culturally relevant, age appropriate, original content for children in Papua New Guinea. Forty tablets are stored in a solar powered, lockable transport case and pre-loaded with core reading relating to the curriculum including hundreds of carefully curated titles. Using an application called Elevate, children enjoy an extensive library of locally produced read aloud books with sign language translation. The kits also enable access to numeracy and literacy skill building games and tasks. Access to broader and enhanced content is helping to boost student learning.
